After School Program
Kennedy JR | Kearns JR | Videos
The After School Program serves as a safe place for youth to go to learn new skills and spend time with their friends in a safe environment. Youth Services currently runs two After School Programs in Kearns and West Valley City with efforts to expand the program to other areas. These programs are free and open to any youth attending either Kearns or Kennedy Jr. High Schools; The program is held on site at each of these schools. Parents need to fill out a Registration Form for their youth to be able to attend. This is available either at the school or on the individual program pages listed above.
Activities include academic support, filmmaking, skateboarding, snowboarding, DJ classes, dance, arts, sports, service projects throughout the community, and off-site field trips.
Students who attend the program have reported an increase in their attendance at school, improved their grades and an increase of self-worth.
During the school year, hours for the program are from 2:45 to 6 PM. An all-day 4 week and 2 week Summer Program is also being held at Kearns Jr. High.
This program is run in collaboration with Salt Lake County Library Services, Parks and Recreation Department and Aging Services. For more information about the After School Program, contact Kelly Riding at kriding@slco.org.
