Youth EmployAbility Services

The Youth EmployAbility Services (YES) program helps low-income youth ages 16 to 21 that are in foster care, have dropped out of school, or are high school juniors or seniors, to become successful at school, home or work.

To be eligible, youth must:

  • Be from a low-income family
  • Be a US Citizen
  • Live in Salt Lake County or Tooele County
  • Have barriers to success

YES staff helps youth through an education and employment plan, which may include help obtaining grants and scholarships, tutoring, teaching better study skills, life skills training, mentoring from adults, unpaid job training, paid or unpaid internships, or referrals to community services and resources.

Average enrollment is 14 to 18 months plus a year of follow-up services, although some youth are involved for longer or shorter periods of time. The program emphasis is to encourage youth to obtain their diploma or GED, get training in a high growth, high demand industry, and become employed.

YES Program Application Process

To apply, youth must fill out an information sheet and turn it into the YES offices. YES staff will then set up an orientaiton and personal interview to discuss the program and test basic reading and math skills.

After eligibility is determined and all documentation has been received, the youth is certified as a participant and a staff member will be assigned as a personal advisor and mentor during the youth's time in the program.
